--=-=- Hi folks, I wrote an article about etckeeper... that nifty thing that allows to keep /etc under version control and thus "rollback" in case something bad happens during an upgrade or so. http://sunoano.name/ws/public_xhtml/scm.html#etckeeper --=-=-Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) iQIcBAEBCgAGBQJKNNrxAAoJEP1u/LUtID1UWWoP/22N/lE4oR6UmSoj44VggLEY 5rDKknwE7f3QYwcekQJkYKstokN1CiGzu1yXd11yNrY2qBV63UmtNdhXd9atnC0U 71m3jABdQ7rcL8UZBkounP2vnlmTE11cGyBuAMeh4jLIRNtPXrF8W6SwXZtUIM43 orLC9ZKJIZycX44YvmlNEMPR16lfDmCVkvXBdkCO0w0kckCz8ql/mxGx8cyKrja6 g6LzHHnEkR5wqHWDUGyEPlzwR8kr+0cA2wrgAi8Ix+Oi+YBc9JQhQDKWBRfZC34y 1P4MT88Qtl5PW0rLArL/g4pkSoN4NfyjLUfAtqRFPhjourMS/V0ewMwLPK0qUakU kM8CKMVUQyK4cfaUA/8jbz7dJuAFJSHUGC1q30mZ4vjDe/ZA21FNnBEolxzgE0de XvOHDv92o8274beeXVLHUZPyMgBYf10qxchyy2Eyzm+yir38DYD/lzmxK3Weyx/k QF2Z029frSGMVudDetXbZm3kCeaJJar++CXeL/81GXj4Pl7C1sXr1OfBc7WhRKIN spXkDAtrvzpeJq4U/DARpZQ27SdOD4ZwIPPUFcIqj8kzm8K3zp4PEejd8AHwFjg1 RI4QDDSlOfwu3rc13OxroEpIO83PRSzTHw66j+toX0tMBzE2OpYuLxV4ol/7K2xK fIOU6WAjKG/ENdOH3K8Y =7jiG -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-=-=--

This is great. I had been looking for some tool like that for a while and had some failed attempts with SVN (failed with respect to the metadata). Thanks for the helpful article and thanks for the pointer to the tool. // Oliver

--=-=- Peter> You can use svk instead of svn I do not see how this solves the metadata issue if you use a version control system directly without the smartness etckeeper brings to the table e.g. by using its .gitignore settings. svk is an attempt to inject the notion of being a decentralized scm into a centralized one (which svn happens to be) ... that has nothing to do with putting /etc under version control --=-=-Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) iQIcBAEBCgAGBQJKN3XzAAoJEP1u/LUtID1UqVAP/15aPyzuboABUmCm7wicfsRZ BQ03UeXD3hYT5s3k0sr6GPf4DQB+Ms0yRmpqqCmB05RgZSxCatgA9v3ZIWLcnNRX p0T/gsMb7B8LG3tPJZHQvRIuuALCITAmy9+/bW9EJ99Va3hedljOwEEhLm+rYhxd C5nXHRURXHJkSu9VBQQQu8QHy4WVMbWm8WBt4/FGCMNQjDUBBkPEqgcayWamai8+ IBrA2fkPjPCtVeyXVsIpVI5d2i/ODgVpBc1EjFsc5+gSP0U7p8rT2uS4O/46Jedx 0FOGjWAYrvMD1P25xQI5fpIYpqK2yeLuh4ZQnwBzlCTual9PNw95Xc58054/ztHi Hk8OFIzB9yq55tC5bAryY+G4li35ebhYFy2ex72cOuPhCsvUvEyfNwsPbRqcWsXU MOzt2DoUgkWndwv9uJSVstLHHyk0PLOP9dHy+iG+MBbUc77VMSsT64EMCFy/z8is GkzNJSjixbOgyZUnR+r+fZE33Z01RfBToC/nqLvhG171mt7B3wTuZO8TsAc2/UcH Xqweif6d9wyOalThtnggvPqm+oQoBe6tMgzudFjDFvooWwBsNhsfFs88AHA+EeiC qvKFPHHMwLPuG1nSYWkikDsrhirUeP+FGy+62smVuABHs95Vf8UIkDALMCBc4c4B dTK3khKtcny7fQyiMI3O =ttVI -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-=-=--
