Subject: All Time Biggest Event for OVC -- May 9th

Dear Friends of Open Voting:

My keynote address at the Red Hat Summit is less than one week away! Only
problem: we need help getting through the next week.

Red Hat is paying for food, lodging, etc., but we have other expenses to
cover in the mean time. My appearance at Red Hat, assuming I can pull it
together, will be very beneficial for our organization and for the Open
Voting cause.

WHY RED HAT IS IMPORTANT ------------------------------------------------
Just as a reminder of why this is so important for OVC... Eventually, soon,
OVC must have corporate sponsorship. The most likely corporations to want
to see us succeed are open source champions -- not Microsoft. Red Hat is
the
biggest. The Red Hat Summit has many corporate sponsors, including IBM,
HP,
Dell, and so on. They will all be there. They want to hear about the
importance of the Open Voting project -- the importance for democracy and
also the importance for the open source movement worldwide.

More that 1,000 are expected for my keynote. It had better be good. I
have
a one-hour workshop later the same morning (May 9). I also need to
prepare
literature for distribution.

Here are some links about it:

About a year-and-a-half ago, there was an article where Greg DeKoenigsberg
of Red Hat was quoted saying they were exploring the possibility of OVC
membership.

"Recently, Greg DeKoenigsberg, community relations manager of Red Hat,
wrote 'our long-term mission is to further the democratization of code and
content. Open voting systems are an obvious fit for our mission.' OVC and
Red Hat are currently exploring a relationship, which is expected to be
finalized soon." http://www.granitebayview.com/article/2005/11/386

I have been working hard to prepare. I just finished a 5,000 word
question-and-answer dialog for Red Hat Magazine. They want me to be at a
rehearsal the day before, and I've been invited to an executive dinner
hosted by Red Hat CEO, Matthew Szulik.

I have been working on the presentation. Besides the rehearsal, they
want a
copy of my presentation for the CD they will distribute to participants.

Besides all the Red Hat preparations, I have been busy with legislative
efforts. We met with Nancy Pelosi's district director on Tuesday. We've
met with him four times over the last year or so, and we are making
progress. The re-work of the Holt bill is supposed to be finished
today. I
know they took some of our suggestions, but we let Pelosi know they have a
long way to go. We continue to work on getting our ordinance through the
San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and we continue on getting support for
AB 852. The state and county efforts look good.

You have saved the day before, and I hope you can do it one more time. If
you want to contribute, but want some other method, please contact me right
away.

PLEASE DONATE NOW ---------------------------------- The PayPal button on
our web site http://openvoting.org is probably the quickest and easiest.
This is the address for PayPal: donation@openvotingconsortium.org

If by check, please send to: Open Voting Consortium 9560 Windrose Lane

Thank you again for helping OVC to continue progressing toward the
establishment of OPEN VOTING.
